The UGA Pep Rally-A Georgia Club TraditionPosted on September 4, 2017
Ah, fall. The kids are back in school, the humidity has dipped below 97%, and it is almost time for Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks. In and around Athens it is time to pay homage to the game that we all know and love–football!
Here at The Georgia Club, we are eagerly awaiting the annual UGA Pep Rally Wednesday September 6th, from 6-7pm. Each year, the families, friends, and staff of The Georgia Club kickoff the football season at the Clubhouse Veranda with the finest showing of red and black you have ever seen. Member guests are invited to our very own tailgate style menu with hamburgers, hot dogs, jerk chicken skewers and more. The UGA Cheerleaders help rally the crowd in a ‘Goooooo Dawgs’ cheer, and are joined by the Majorettes, the Georgettes and even the Redcoat Auxillary Band. Always a favorite, Hairy Dawg will be in attendance to say hello, or in this case-Woof! Woof! Woof! Does your family have an athlete of its own? Kids of The Georgia Club are welcome to participate in the Spirit Sprint– be sure to wear your team uniform– and run through our balloon arch! Be sure to loosen up your throwing arm because we will also have our traditional football throwing contest, corn hole, and other activities. Price for adults is $9.95 per person and children $5.95 per person with a cash bar available. Don’t forget the Clubhouse will be closed during this event and reservations are required!
Football season in the south is hard to describe if you are not from around here.
It is a time when good friends become friendly rivals and home cooks become master chefs. It is a season steeped in tradition and filled stories that will live on as great memories. From The Georgia Club’s own Bill Hartman:
“As a sportscaster in Atlanta, I hardly ever attended tailgates before Georgia games. Many times I would fly to the games in helicopters and be taken to the stadium. Once we were flying to Athens and I knew that my childhood friend and neighbor, Larry Benson, was having a pregame party at his parents home on Dearing Street. As we approached the stadium, I asked my pilot to flyover the party. Everyone looked like that were having a great time so I had the pilot land the chopper in the field across from the Benson’s house. I calmly exited the aircraft and walked across the street to join the festivities as the helicopter flew off to its landing spot. It was my grandest entrance ever! “
There are traditions that range from the wild to the wonderful and each team in the SEC has it’s very own. Whether it is the call of the ‘Gooooooo Dawgs! Sic ’em! Woof Woof Woof!’ or ‘rolling the trees’ in Toomer’s Corner before an Auburn game, we know game day in the South is something to experience.
