Summer Day Trips from Athens You Just Can’t MissPosted on July 6, 2016
With so many unique things to do and see in Athens, you could spend weeks, months, even years without ever getting bored. But for those who want to explore what lies beyond the city, we’ve taken a page from Josh Brown’s Lifestyle Blog to highlight the best weekend trips – and where to stop to get away from it all. For residents of The Georgia Club, all of these destinations can be reached within a tank of gas.
There are tons of unique spots scattered around the Classic City, but a few stand out as absolutely amazing. These rustic treasures exemplify how captivating a ramble through the South can be. Take a weekend road trip and stop at these points along the way.
Georgia Mountain Market: If you’re a thrifting and antiquing junkie, this is the place for you. Located just below the North Carolina state line, this market is full of great booths, great finds and endless potential. Visit one particular booth and sift through thousands of records. You may even be able to find some playlist inspiration for the next leg of your trip.
Soco Falls and Bryson City: A short drive from the market and a perfect way to stretch your legs, stop at Soco Falls on the way to Bryson City. Just a short walk from the road, this natural masterpiece is a hidden gem. There’s no swimming allowed here, but take all the photos you can handle. Trust us, you’ll be snapping away.
Nantahala Outdoor Center: Shop for outdoor gear, if needed, or bring your already packed supplies down to the river. There are always plenty of kayakers surfing the small rapids – endless entertainment – and feel free to join in the fun for a swim or a paddle. You’ll be amazed by the surrounding natural beauty. If you feel like sleeping under the stars, there’s plenty of room to camp here as well.
It’s amazing all of the adventure that awaits just a car ride away from Athens. The Georgia Club, also a short drive away from the Classic City, offers Southern living in a classic yet unique and modern country club setting. As well as masterfully-planned homes, residents enjoy extra wide sidewalks, beautiful nature trails and a 27-hole championship golf course. There’s something for everyone and adventures await everyday, just outside your front door.
